In my late forties I decided I would not be fat and fifty, so I joined a gym and got my diet under control. During that period, I lost over 100lb and got into exercise, particularly cycling. A few years later, I was feeling like I was starting to lose direction and needed to refocus.
I booked a DEXA scan with Bodyscan to check my body fat and visceral fat and Kevin was the consultant. We began to talk about nutrition – I thought I was eating healthily but he had some very interesting ideas and sent me some follow-up information on his bespoke nutrition services. After looking at the details I thought I would give the 12-week service a go.
Being over weight and a yo-yo dieter in the past, I was determined not to put any weight back on and as a result, I became obsessed with controlling calories and avoiding dietary fat.
My primary goal was performance related for a cycling trip to Spain and my secondary goal was to improve body composition.
When I first saw Kevin’s nutritional recommendations, I was very concerned as it involved eating a lot more food than I was used to. With some hesitation, I decided to trial the recommendations and stuck to it rigidly. I was amazed that I was eating more food, feeling better than ever but I was not putting on weight. I felt more energetic than I had done in years!
I had been paranoid about only weighing weekly; when Kevin suggested a daily weigh-in, I was horrified. I quickly understood that it was better to track trends as opposed to daily changes. I also learnt that it was only one metric to gauge progress.
The weekly calls/video are brilliant for keeping me on track and dealing with my questions. I have been very impressed that if I leave any questions on my online tracker Kevin always responds very quickly. I am now in a position where I am confident to go out and enjoy a meal and wine, without the guilt.
Kevin had given me a personalised nutrition plan to keep me in tip top shape and fuelled up. I couldn’t believe what I accomplished over in Spain and felt so strong on the bike – I cycled over 600 miles in 11 days!
As for my body composition, I lost 3kg of body fat and gained 2kg of lean mass within 12-weeks. My visceral fat had also come down, with readings comparable to 30-year olds!
The best part of the entire service is that I now feel relaxed when going away on holiday as I don’t gain significant weight like I used to. I can also enjoy regular ice creams!
Kevin has changed my relationship with food – I now know I can go out and enjoy whatever I want once it fits within my weekly calorie targets.
I feel healthier with more energy, so much so that I’m prepping for my first full marathon.
